Uncharted sequel confirmed by Naughty Dog

PlayStation 3 fans have rightly championed Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune in light of the disappointment felt by the lacklustre performance of certain high-profile exclusive titles that flunked somewhat on Sony’s powerhouse platform during 2007.

The ongoing faith of those fans is now being repaid by Sony and Drake’s Fortune developer Naughty Dog following news that a sequel to the action-packed PS3 adventure is already in production.

Naughty Dog, which initially promised a sequel late last year, has now revealed that Nate’s heroic adventures are set to continue. Specifically, company president Christophe Balestra has this week revealed in an interview with French gaming magazine Jeux-France that work on Uncharted 2 (working title) is well underway.

Naturally, details pertaining to the new game, its storyline, environments, and features have not yet been divulged, though it’s a safe bet to assume that ballsy Nate is all-but guaranteed to become embroiled in yet more frantic jumping, climbing, swinging, and shooting.

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune followed Nate as he strived to secure a treasure discovered centuries ago by English privateer Sir Francis Drake. Developer Naughty Dog (Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter) has enjoyed impressive critical and consumer reaction to Uncharted, with the game existing as 2007’s joint highest performing exclusive title on the PlayStation 3 with an aggregate Metacritic score of 88% across 49 reviews.

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune shares its lofty positioning with Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and Ninja Gaiden Sigma.
